Man from Springfield Sentenced for Shooting at Gas Station in South Springfield

A man from Springfield will spend several years in prison for his role in a shooting outside of a gas station that injured one person.

Investigators say 24-year-old Tavian Cannon and the victim got into an argument at the Git N’ Go convenience store on South Jefferson on March 12, 2023.

During the altercation, he allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the chest.

The victim survived, and Cannon was arrested shortly after the shooting.

He was charged with assault, unlawful use of weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action. He pleaded guilty to the assault and unlawful use of a weapon charges, getting the armed criminal action charges dropped.

Cannon was sentenced to 10 years in prison. His potential for parole was not specified in the release.
