A man from Texas is recovering after he saved the life of a young girl who was being attacked by a dog.

12-year-old AnnaLina Hanson was waiting at her normal bus stop location when the dog approached her. She said it began with the dog jumping on her, which made her uncomfortable.

She said she began pushing the dog off her, which angered the animal. It was at that point the dog became aggressive, knocked her over and began attacking her.

Shortly after the attack began, Texas native Phillip Verdin noticed the scene from his vehicle, and jumped into action.

Investigators say he heard Hanson screaming for help, and rushed towards the scene, separating the dog from Hanson.

The dog caused serious injuries to Verdin, biting him on the lips, arms, and fingers. He required several stiches and even emergency plastic surgery to repair the damage.

Hanson had injuries to her arms and legs.

Despite suffering multiple injuries, he was able to subdue the animal until authorities arrived. The dog was taken into custody by Greene County Animal Control.

Verdin said he doesn’t regret what he did, while Hanson referred to him as “a savior” to her for potentially saving her life.
