The State of Missouri carried out the death sentence of Amber McLaughlin Tuesday evening.
She was the first openly transgender inmate to be executed in the state.
The lethal injection was carried out at 6:39 p.m at the Correctional Center in Bonne Terre.
McLaughlin was sentenced for the rape and murder of Beverly Guenther.
At the time, McLaughlin was known as Scott and Guenther was his ex-girlfriend.
