UPDATE: The National Weather Service has extended the extreme heat warning until 7:00pm on Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued an extreme heat warning in effect from noon Saturday to 7 pm Wednesday.

The Weather Service there will be dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 106 expected during the warning period for most of the state of Missouri.

The extreme heat will cause heat related illnesses to increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.

Experts say you should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles.
