City leaders in Springfield now have added incentives to attract and retain officers for the Springfield Police Department.
On Monday, the incentive was approved for SPD to begin using as a recruiting tool.
The incentives include:
- $5,000 signing bonus for new recruits
- $10,000 for officers coming from another department
- $2,500 per year in student loan reimbursement for up to five years, not exceeding $12,500
Officials with the department are hoping it will help them fill some of the 50 open positions that are currently available.
