A man who is serving a life sentence for his role in a sexual abuse scandal at Camp Kanakuk will remain in prison after being denied parole.
Pete Newman was sentenced in 2009 to sexually assaulting at least six children at the camp while he was the camp’s director.
He received two life sentences for his charges.
His parole board was considering whether or not to release him from prison, but letters and statements from victims pleading for him to remain in prison swayed the board in favor of denying parole.
Newman will be up for parole again in 2029, with his victims committing to speaking out against his release again when the time comes.
