Springfield and Brookline have many aid agreements with surrounding fire districts but not one another, but that may change soon.

The Springfield City Council will consider a mutual aid agreement today between the Springfield Fire Department and the Brookline Fire Protection District that will let the departments assist one another if they become overwhelmed or face an emergency.

The agreement would also give both parties access to resources that one department possesses but the other may not.

When asked about the agreement, Brookline Fire Chief James Kilburn said that giving and receiving assistance in emergencies is always appreciated, and the agreement between departments will be huge for residents of both Springfield and Brookline.

The city council meeting will be held at the police and fire training center on West Battlefield at 6:30 pm tonight.
