Developers for a project at National and Sunshine in Springfield will have to re-evaluate after its proposal failed to pass at the most recent Springfield City Council meeting.
At Tuesday’s council meeting, the measure failed with a 4-4 tie. Six votes are required to confirm a proposal.
Reports say the developers have been trying for some time to convert 2.6 acres of land at National and Sunshine from residential to commercial development.
This comes as extensive pushback has been received by residents in the University Heights neighborhood in terms of traffic, logistics, and architectural concerns.
Next steps for the proposed development remain unclear.
