A house in Greene County that was the site of the worst massacre of law enforcement members in the 20th century has burned to the ground.

The house on Farm Road 148 in Republic was where the Young Brothers allegedly shot and killed 3 Springfield Policemen, 2 Greene County deputies, and the Greene County Sheriff when they attempted to arrest them in 1932.

The current owners of the property had a construction crew burn the house down.

The Republic Fire Department says they because the house was not on a historical registry and on private property the owners were free to burn the house, but they could be charged for not obtaining a permit from the city to burn or demolish the house.
