Springfield City Council Adopting Lake Springfield Plan

The Springfield City Council is moving forward with a proposed plan to reinvigorate Lake Springfield and the site of the James River Power Station.

The plan, which was created in 2022, and was passed by the council with a unanimous vote on Monday.

The property on Lake Springfield will be revitalized with the use of ecology islands connected by boardwalks, which will increase the accessibility of the area for lake-goers.

The approval of the plan also opens the door to ideas for how to use the now abandoned James River Power Station. Those ideas include an entertainment district or a water adventure park.

This comes after months of studies and evaluations determining several aspects, including water-quality assessments, economic impact, and others.

The Lake Springfield Plan will now move into new phases that will detail planning, funding, construction, and other parts of the project.
