After six years as the City Manager of Springfield, Jason Gage announced Friday he will step down in 2025.
Gage says that he feels it is the right time to leave the position, as the city prepares for a new mayor and the potential for multiple new members on the Springfield City Council in the near future.
The list of accomplishments in his tenure is extensive, and includes:
- Commercial additions such as Costco, Buc-ee’s, and plans for a new Target store
- Multiple tax ballot renewals approved by voters that helped first responders, education, and other city needs
- Securing the long-term future of the Springfield Cardinals and Hammons Field
- Spearheading the city of Springfield in gaining millions of dollars from the Missouri Assembly for community improvements
- Helping guide the city through the global COVID-19 pandemic
“It has been an honor and a privilege to lead this high-performing organization and serve the Springfield community over the past six years. I’m proud to have served alongside City employees who are not only highly qualified but also uphold the highest ethical standards. They are relentlessly committed to delivering essential services daily,” Gage said in his statement Friday.
Mayor Ken McClure thanked Gage for his service, calling him a “steady and patient leader”.
He will resign as Springfield City Manager effective January 11, 2025. Mayor McClure and other city leaders are in the process of naming an interim city manager and searching for a permanent replacement.
