Springfield City Utilities says it’s working with the Department of Conservation to launch floating wetlands at Fellows Lake.

The launch of the man-made structure is to improve water quality and create an aquatic habitat.

The floating wetland, which contains no plastic components, is made of aluminum and filled with lightweight foamed glass, that when combined with various species of native plants, will float in a cove near the boat dock at the north end of the causeway of the lake near the intersection of Farm Roads 197 and 68.
