What We Know: A Springfield nonprofit is using hospital data to get a better idea of where and why violence is happening across the city.
What It Means: Stronger Together is partnering with Missouri State University and CoxHealth on a violence prevention program known as the Cardiff Model.
CoxHealth collects anonymous information from patients treated for violence-related injuries. Missouri State then analyzes that data to look for patterns, including where violence happens, when it happens and the ages of those involved.
Stronger Together’s Krista Pyle says that information can help community leaders better understand what individual neighborhoods need.
What’s Next: The group is now working with neighborhood leaders on possible ways to prevent violence.
