Springfield has been chosen to as the host city for the national kickoff of America’s Route 66 Centennial Celebration in 2026.
Governor Mike Kehoe was in Springfield Wednesday morning to announce that the U-S National Route 66 Centennial Commission and the Road Ahead Partnership picked Springfield for the honor.
The celebration will be livestreamed around the world with reports from major cities on Route 66.
There will be a concert at the Shrine Mosque on April 30 of next year to start the celebration.
