What We Know: The Associated Press projected Tuesday night that Amendment 1 in Missouri has passed. Early returns showed the measure receiving strong statewide support.
What It Means: The amendment extends Missouri’s existing one-tenth of one percent sales and use tax for another 10 years.
The tax provides funding for soil and water conservation projects, as well as the operation and maintenance of state parks and historic sites.
What’s Next: State officials say the tax brings in roughly $140 million each year. The renewal keeps the tax in place through the next decade, after which it must be submitted to Missouri voters again for approval.
Supporters said continuing the tax will help preserve Missouri’s natural resources, protect public lands, and maintain parks and historic sites for future generations.
