Officers with the Springfield Police Department are releasing the name of the suspect who got onto a Springfield Public Schools bus and caused a scene.
Investigators say William Moore stood in front of the doors of the bus along Barnes Avenue near Battlefield Wednesday morning, April 3, forcing the doors open and then entering the bus.
Once inside, he took the keys out of the ignition and had a verbal exchange with a nearby witness, who told him to “get off the bus”.
Moore responded by saying, “this is my bus.”
After he exited the bus, he barricaded himself inside his home, which forced an eight hour standoff with police before he eventually surrendered.
Moore is a registered sex-offender, and was convicted of third-degree kidnapping in 2021. He was ordered to remain 500 feet away from a school or school transport, which he violated.
He is charged with vehicle hijacking, assault with intent to commit bus hijacking, and a sex offender violation.
