A jury trial is ongoing in a high-profile case surrounding a man accused of murdering four people inside a hotel room in Springfield.

Scott Goodwin-Bey went on trial Monday, facing four counts of first-degree murder in a quadruple homicide back in 2014.

He is also charged with armed criminal action.

Investigators say the shooting took place at the Economy Inn on North Glenstone in Springfield in November of 2014.

Prosecutors in the case are arguing that Goodwin-Bey killed the four victims because he believed they were talking with authorities about his drug use. They also allege the gun used in the murder belonged to him at one point, and that shell casings found at the scene were a close match to the weapon.

Defense attorneys have argued that the science is not exact, and that the ammo authorities found inside Goodwin-Bey’s vehicle was not the ammunition used in the murders.

The case continues Wednesday, and will conclude in the near future, where the jury will deliberate and hand down a verdict.
