TRAFFIC RE-OPENED: Truck Fire Shuts Down Eastbound Traffic on I-44 near West Bypass in Springfield

UPDATE 11:20 a.m.: Both left and right lanes are now open on I-44 at the 75 mile marker. The exit ramp to West Bypass will remain closed for recovery of the truck.

UPDATE 7:35 a.m.: The left lane is now open for eastbound traffic on I-44 at West Bypass in Springfield. The right lane remains closed. All lanes remain open westbound.

Traffic on eastbound I-44 just before West Bypass in Springfield had to be diverted onto Chestnut Expressway Tuesday morning after a truck flipped over and caught fire at the 75.2 mile marker.

Shane, who’s a local truck driver, tells KWTO News it’s a day cab with a fuel tanker, and it’s laying across the eastbound lanes of the interstate, completely burned.

The driver of the truck was able to escape with minor injuries.

The westbound lanes of I-44 are open.
