Victim Identified, Suspect Arrested in Polk County Murder Case

Investigators with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office are releasing the name of the victim in a shooting death in the area, and have the suspect in custody.

Deputies say Phillip Thompson was shot and killed in a barn and discovered at around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Authorities conducted a search, and the subsequent investigation identified Shane Ellzey as the primary suspect.

Ellzey is related to Thompson and was working on his farm at the time of the shooting.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was called in to assist with the investigation, and conduct a search for Ellzey.

Investigators say Ellzey was apprehended Tuesday night in Louisiana.

He is being charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and vehicle theft.

A judge has set Ellzey’s bail at $750,000. Troopers suspect he may suffer from a combination of “mental disorders”.
