Wednesday’s Severe Weather

Tornadoes and severe thunderstorms struck Wednesday afternoon.

Tornadoes were on the ground near Verona on Highway 60 east, Monett, and Aurora.

Some homes and buildings were destroyed in the Verona area.

Large hail struck several communities including baseball sized hail at Vanzant and 2-inch hail in Aurora.

In Christian County, there was 2 foot of water over the road near Clever and a tree fell across the road in Chadwick.

A tornado was on the ground in Monett.

There were also reports of golf ball sized hail.

Damage included a barn destroyed, the trailer of an 18-wheeler flipped, and the sign at McDonalds was damaged.

Cox Hospital in Monett was without power and had to use a generator power.

Cox says there are some large trees down on the property and some employees had the windows of their cars blown out.

They reassured everyone that the staff and patients are safe.
