UPDATE: Westbound I-44 re-opened before 8 p.m. Sunday near the Missouri-Oklahoma state line after being closed for several hours due to multiple crashes involving trucks on the Will Rogers Turnpike in Oklahoma.
During the shutdown, MoDOT asked all drivers to find an alternate route or prepare to stop and seek shelter.
The final opportunity to exit I-44 was at Exit 18 at Fidelity, which took drivers to I-49 North.
