A woman from Springfield will spend nearly a decade in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges of abuse or neglect of a child.

Investigators say Alyssa Bowman and her husband, Joshua, were arrested after two children in their care were found “extremely malnourished” will visible cuts and bruises on their bodies in March of this year.

A relative drove the children to an area hospital after the Bowman’s dropped them off. That was the first indicator for authorities to investigate the case.

The couple was served a warrant in May of this year and were arrested at that time.

Alyssa Bowman pleaded guilty to two counts of abuse or neglect of a child. Charges of abuse or neglect resulting in serious or emotional injury and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child were dropped as part of the plea deal.

Joshua Bowman will have his next court hearing on December 10.

Alyssa was sentenced to nine years in prison in accordance with her plea deal. It is unclear if she will be eligible for parole.
