A woman from Springfield was searching for her stolen political sign, and wound up finding dozens in the trunk of a young man’s car.

Investigators say Laura McCaskill has had four signs stolen from her yard, showing her and her family’s support for the Harris-Walz campaign in the upcoming November 5 election.

Before the final sign was taken, she inserted an Apple AirTag in case it was stolen to be able to track it down.

The sign was stolen earlier this week, and the woman was able to trace the sign to a car in front of a home in Nixa.

When they arrived, they spoke to a woman who said it was her son’s vehicle. When the son was called to the situation, he admitted it was in the trunk of his car.

From there, McCaskill said the situation escalated. When the trunk of the vehicle was opened, there were more than 50 Harris-Walz political signs in the car. The boy’s mother took a handful of signs out, threw them at the woman and her partner, and allegedly shouted, “Here you go liberals”.

A video of the confrontation has been published on social media, which has garnered more media attention.

McCaskill says she is filing charges in the case, due to the 50+ signs that were taken. It is considered a class four election offense, a misdemeanor in the state of Missouri, which carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison, a fine of up to $2,500, or a combination of the two.

The identity of the young man and his mother have not been made public.
